The setting
The Hamlet of Baldwin is located on King's Highway 48, in the Town of Georgina, Ontario, Canada. It is a wonderfully quaint settlement with a charming general store, a picturesque river, and a century-old gristmill. No one seems to know for certain when Baldwin was established, or who it is named for, but it has all the ingredients for a pioneer tale of this nature.
Prominent mention is also given to the Town of Newmarket--which did indeed exist in 1820--and to the settlements of "Bogarttown" and "Miles' Corners" (now Richmond Hill).
